ACH-47A Chinook

Italeri's 1/48 scale ACH-47A is available online from Squadron

Description

Here is my ACH-47A Gunship Chinook , from “GUNS A-GO-GO” Unit , 1st AV.DET.2/20 ARA , Vietnam 1967 . The model is Italeri's 1/72 offering and is, in my opinion, very good.

I found a lot of useful information about this beautiful helicopter at http://gunsagogo.org/ . This site was very helpful to me during the loooong (it took me 4 years) construction of the Chinook.

In carefully examining the website I found some small mistakes, especially in decal placement:

  • “Easy Money” decal should be on the opposite site to where Italeri shows on instruction (all photos I found about this Chinook has it on the starboard side)

  • all stencils should be black on this version

  • I also cut the aerials which were too long ,and joined them by very fine thread.

The model was painted with Model Master traditional US Olive Drab, followed by a coat of Sidolux (Polish equivalent of Future ;-), decals, and Humbrol Matt Cote.

For the first time I tried subtle preshading and wash. I also tested dry brushing and Mr Mark Setter for the decals.

I am very happy with the results and I hope you like it too.
