Dornier Do 635 - projected high-speed reconnaissance twin

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Do 335A is available online from
Squadron

Description

Two or three years ago I was looking through a Schiffer book on the restoration of a real Dornier Do.335. In the back of the book were some concepts of the Do.335 which included a Do.435 which replaced the rear DB. 605 engine with a BMW Turbo Jet.

For the model of the Do.635 I built I used two Monogram 1/48 Do.335 kits with Paragon’s Do.335 “recon” extended wing tips. The center section is scratch built out of sheet plastic with an aluminum spar through the wings. I sanded off the panel lines and re-scribed them.

I painted the model with Model Master paints and the decals were from my parts box.

The Do.635 was built as a high speed recon bird. It took two years of on again and off again building to get it done.

And of course as soon as it was finished, I read the announcement of the Tamiya kit. It figures!
