Fokekr Dr.I

Roden's 1/32 scale Fokker Dr.I is available online from Squadron.com

Description

The kit is Roden's 1/32 scale Fokker Dr.I,  built essentially out of the box.

Changes include addition of plywood strengthening plates in the fuselage (visible through the cockpit opening), photoetched gun sights and rigging.

My model depicts the aircraft flown by Rudolf Klimke of Jasta 27 and was painted using Montex masks K32041.

Following the analysis of a few photos of Klimke's aircraft I decided to paint straight instead of diagonal streaks (Cutting Edge decal set offering Klimke's markings also suggests straight streaks). They do look straight to me, but it could be the angle the photo was taken at. Nevertheless, they are not as distinctly diagonal as, for example, on Kempf's Dreidecker.

I had no problems with the masks. They adhered very well and left no glue residue (I kept them on for more than a week).

The kit was painted with a combination of Testor's and Tamiya paints using Aztek A470 airbrush and the streaks were drybrushed with a flat brush.
