P-47D "Bubbletop"

Tamiya's 1/48 scale P-47D Bubbletop is available online from Squadron

Description

Here is Tamiya's gorgeous 1/48 scale P-47D Thunderbolt "Bubbletop".

The only after market addition to this gem were Eduard seat belts. All of the decaling save for the invasion
stripes came from AeroMaster 48-578-Thunderbolts of the "404", Pt. 3. I used the decal stripes from the kit and they fitted quite well.

The basic painting was done with Alclad Duraluminum and Dark Aluminum. Tamiya Khaki Drab was used for anti-glare and topsides over-paints.

The model represents P-47D-25-RE flown by Maj. Hal G. Shook, 506FS, 404FG.

Small black and white photos of the three sheet selections show Shook's aircraft without wheel covers. My model depicts the craft only moments before they were removed.

I gleaned a bit of something from almost every P-47 article in HyperScale, but special thanks to Roger Fabrocini and Tony Bell- their features were instructive and inspirational - a nice illustration of the form and function of HyperScale.
