Revell's 1/48 scale PBY-5A Catalina is available online from Squadron

This is ProModeler's 1/48 scale PBY-5A Catalina.

It has been quite a while since I have built an aircraft kit and, boy, was this a challenge for me after not having built one for so long. I am an armour modeller after all!

I won't go into the nitty gritty of the build as most probably know what this kits like as it has been around for a while.

I built this straight from the box, and decided on painting it as one of the Black Cats, thinking that it would be a straight forward paint scheme, but it was actually a challenge as I wanted it to look like a plane that had seen a little action.

The base color was Tamiya NATO Black, and then Flat Black was used for some of the shading and to enhance some of the detail. Over this was a very diluted mix of Buff sprayed in a patchy manner over the entire kit.

Decals, most of them were badly perished and I had to be careful applying these. In the end they did not go on well, which is why I have made them look very damaged and worn.

This kit was built for a friend of mine, and overall l really enjoyed it. Hope you do to!
