Tamiya's 1/48 scale
Supermarine Spitfire Vb

by Jordi Farre

Supermarine Spitfire Vb

Tamiya's 1/48 scale Spitfire Vb is available online from Squadron.com

This is Tamiya's 1/48 scale Spitfire Mk.Vb and it has been built almost straight from the box, with some small details added to the cockpit (Eduard RAF harness and buckles set, plus some copper wire here and there).

The undersurfaces have been painted with Tamiya Medium Grey (XF20) and the upper camouflage has been done with Gunze's RLM75 (H69) for the Ocean Grey and RAF Dark Green from the same brand (H73).

Decals came from Tally Ho Spitfire Aces Pt.1.

Fuselage codes were masked with the great help of Tally Ho's Pro-mask and, as well as spinner and
fuselage band. These markings were painted with Tamiya's Sky (XF21) mixed with Tamiya's Flat White in a 50/50 ratio.
Paint chipping has been done with a silver ink pen and panel lines have been enhanced with raw umber oil paint, exhaust and gun stains have also been reproduced with oil paints, raw umber plus ochre for the exhausts and a dark grey mix for the gun powder residue.
