IPMS UK ScaleModelworld

This year’s Scale Model World was held over the weekend of 19th/20th
November at Telford, UK. This just happened to be on the coldest weekend
of the year so far, so while the temperatures outside were freezing, at
least the welcome inside was very warm.
For the uninitiated, the show was held in two very large halls, with
part of a third hall also being used, while the rest of that hall was
used as the food court. As usual, the show was well organised and
attendance was good, particularly on the Saturday.
I guess that a lot of people were disappointed that Airfix did not
release the much-anticipated TSR2 over the weekend, but all was not lost
as they have announced a 1/48 scale Canberra (several versions) and a
1/72 Nimrod. Now that is a major surprise!
The latest Modellers Datafile on the Bf-109 (versions prototype to E)
was released, and the second volume is expected about March 2006. A
quick glance at the book shows it to be a worthwhile publication to have
and my thoughts are that it is the best Datafile to come out so far.
As usual, there were a myriad of traders who were all to happy to
relieve us model makers of our hard earned cash, so that we can keep
ourselves occupied over the coming winter months. It is great to see
such stalwarts such as Aeroclub, White Ensign Models, Hannants, F&F
Models, and plenty of others that come faithfully year after year. It is
also encouraging to welcome more recent enterprises such as the Aviation
Book Centre (who have only been going about 18 months, but are now a
regular attendee at UK model shows) and Friendship Models who added a
touch of Scottish flair to Telford!
To have a really good look around, you need to fully utilise the two
days and unfortunately I had several commitments, so had to take a
lightning tour of the halls to get some photos. What appears is a
‘snapshot’ of the event with pictures of models and some people who
caught my eye. I hope that you enjoy the photos and if you have never
been to this event…..you really are missing out, and maybe next year is
the time to change all of that.
In closing, I would like to thank the guys at IPMS for making this event
possible, the traders, clubs and especially all of the people who made
the effort to come from distant lands to give us the honour of their
presence. It was truly an international show. I can’t wait until next
